The chakras are energy centres located within and beyond the physical body. According to ancient traditions and to science we are energy beings living in a web of energy.

As all our experiences are recorded in our energy body, sometimes as a result of negative imprinting, the energy flow gets blocked, or overcharged, or depleted. The impact of negative past experiences, in terms of toxic emotions and limiting beliefs, together with negative influences from the environment and other people, all cause different imbalances in our energy body.

  1. Root chakra — base of the spine — red
  2. Sacral chakra — just below the navel — orange
  3. Solar Plexus chakra — stomach area — yellow
  4. Heart chakra — center of the chest — green
  5. Throat chakra — base of the throat — blue
  6. Third Eye chakra — forehead, just above area between the eyes — indigo
  7. Crown chakra — top of the head — violet

Sometimes, a Sanskrit name is used instead of plain English because the study of the chakra system as we know it in our modern Western culture originates mostly from yogic traditions from India. You’ll sometimes find them referenced as:

  1. “Muladhara”
  2. “Svadhishthana”
  3. “Manipura”
  4. “Anahata”
  5. Vishuddha
  6. Ajna
  7. Sahasrara

 

According to the Eastern understanding, the Universal Life Force flows through the top of the head and down the chakras, nurturing our bodies with seven distinct kinds of energy, each essential to our physical and spiritual development. And it flows upward through the chakras, communicating individual insight and a conscious sense of universal interconnectedness. We can think of chakras as floppy discs that contain vital programs.They contain programmed subroutines that shape our behaviour. We all function by sets of programs, which may or may not be conscious. In this analogy the body is the hardware, our programming is the software, and the Self is the user. We did not write all of these programs, and some of their language is very archaic. The challenge before us is to identify our programs and rewrite them all while continuing to live our lives, yet this is the task of healing.
